How the job runs
Confirm the clutch, not the gearbox
A slip test in top gear against the handbrake separates a worn clutch from a transmission fault in two minutes.
Box out, everything inspected
With the gearbox off, the flywheel, spigot bearing and input seal are all visible. All three get checked while access is free.
Matched kit fitted
Plate, cover and bearing from one manufacturer, centred on a proper alignment tool and torqued in sequence.
Bleed and bed in
Hydraulics bled, pedal travel set, then road tested to bed the new friction surface in.
What decides the price
Gearbox-out labour is most of it, and that is fixed by the vehicle rather than by us. On a manual Patrol — mostly Safari, Super Safari, Pickup and Y60 — the gearbox and transfer case are heavy and come out together, which makes it a full day rather than a morning. The variable is what goes back in: a clutch kit alone, or a kit plus a flywheel, which we will not skip if the old one is damaged because the new clutch will not survive it. A Patrol built for the dunes may want a heavier-duty kit, and that is priced as what it is.
Questions people ask first
How long does a Patrol clutch last in Dubai?
Between 60,000 and 120,000 km, and the spread is almost entirely down to use. Soft sand, towing, oversized tyres and Sheikh Zayed Road at 6pm are the hardest things a Safari clutch does.
Does the flywheel have to be replaced too?
Not always. A flywheel with light marking can usually be machined. One with heat cracks or deep scoring must be replaced, and we show you the surface rather than asserting it.
Which Patrols have a clutch to replace?
The manual Safari, Super Safari and Pickup, and the older Y60. The Y62 and Y63 are automatic only, so slip on those is a transmission fault. The job is quoted on your Patrol before work starts.
Can you replace a Patrol clutch in a day?
Sometimes. The gearbox and transfer case are heavy and come out together, so allow two days, more if the flywheel needs machining.
